The motion of the cymbals feels good to play into (again, no idea what acoustic cymbals feel like) I have spent a while playing with where my cymbals go to make reaching everything ergonomic and am still not sure I'm totally happy. I have had to re-practice some things I could easily do on my old kit that now involves way more motion. I think this is a really powerful kit, but there does feel like there's a learning curve on top of "just play drums", though I feel like that's probably the case for every edrum kit.įull size drums + cymbals are more fun for me, but also a challenge compared to a smaller kit. So far, any problem I've had has been either fixed with more practice or adjusting settings. Notably, I have got exactly 0 cross talk, which feels like a blessing after playing the TD-1, which didn't even have crosstalk settings. Basically every time I'm like "that sounds weird", I can find what I'm doing wrong in my playing, it's never been a trigger problem. The triggering feels really good without having adjusted it at all.

Playing on full size shells feels like playing "real drums" to me. This kit is 20x more fun to play on than the TD-1KVX I had before. I'm also not that experienced of a drummer, and have never played an acoustic kit, which definitely colors my reactions. This is going to be a pretty random collection of things I liked, didn't like and struggled with. Thanks for the reminder: remembering to do things is not one of my strong suits. Idk where you are located, but if you are ever near Knoxville, TN stop by Edrumcenter and you can come try out both these drums. Price: Efnote but I dont think the VAD is unreasonable, especially if you hit us up and let us give you a deal. The TD27 has more editing capabilities and more sounds as well. The TD27 can import sounds, which Efnote cannot. The Efnote module has far better realistic sounds but I do think the TD27 performs better overall.

Module: Tough one, but I have to go Roland. Both kits kicks are very good but if acoustic sound is important, if you live in an apartment or anything, the Efnote may be the way to go as the VAD kick is quite loud acoustically.

We have debate here at Edrumcenter about which is better so its not universally agreed, but I like the feel of Efnotes better and the 360 trigger is a plus for me. They are similar build and triggering with the main difference being the sizes, but I honestly dont have a preference in size as long as theyre not tiny so I think its dead even here.Ĭymbals: This one is heavy preference but it goes to Efnote as well. Only complaint is that the Efnote hihat uses a special connector so it only works with Efnote. The Efnote hihat is the best one you can get besides the new VH14D. The digital stuff from Roland is just solid. Ride: Goes to Roland with only thing Efnote doing better is having 360 triggering. Efnotes snare is great too though, has a separate input for a crossstick function which is nice. Digitial snare is amazing and responds well and has rim, head and crossstick. So the history in development is very good. Some of those same designers then left ATV and started Efnote. Roland had designers leave the company and start ATV. Here at Edrumcenter we have a 5X and 506 set up right next to each other. I'm having trouble finding anywhere locally that I can try out a VAD 506, and finding anywhere that even sells Efnote seems impossible, so I don't think I'll have a chance to evaluate the difference in feel myself, which doesn't seem ideal, so I'd also appreciate if anyone who has tried both can compare. Some cymbals are larger (14 vs 12 hi hats, 16 vs 14 on one crash cymbal).Hi hat seems like it's more responsive than VH-10.Acoustic noise seems comparable, and isn't a big deal for me.

Obviously the VAD is something like 1300 USD more expensive, so I'm trying to figure out what the pros and cons are. I've been playing edrums for a few years and looking at buying an acoustic-style edrum set.
